A wonderful location paired with charming updates makes Commander's Cabin a special place to stay in Camden. “Commanders Cabin” is one of six uniquely named units inside The Bean House - an elegant, historic home built in 1856 by renowned Atlantic Coast shipbuilder Holly M. Bean. Today, the Bean House anchors one end of Main Street, offering a front-row view of the energy and beauty of downtown Camden. Shops, cafés, restaurants, Camden Harbor, Laite Beach, and nearby State Park hiking trails are all just steps from the front door.
The Space
Commander's Cabin is a bright and welcoming one-bedroom condo on the second floor. The bedroom features a comfortable queen bed, and the full bathroom includes a traditional claw foot tub/shower combination. The living area offers a cozy place to unwind as well as a pull out couch. The kitchen includes essentials for preparing meals, snacks, or a morning coffee before exploring Camden.
Just like the other storied condos within the Bean House, Commander's Cabin blends historic charm with modern comfort. Large windows let in abundant natural light, highlighting the character and craftsmanship of this 100+ year-old building.
Guest Access
A shared washer and dryer are available in the main building's basement. To access them, enter through the big red door on the front porch. The basement door will be on your left, past the staircase toward the back of the foyer.
Other Things to Note
Though Commander's Cabin has been thoughtfully updated, it remains part of a historic building over a century old. Expect a unique blend of old and new, with the character and quirks that come with a property of this age.
Many of the condo names within the Bean House date back to when the former owner operated the residence as a bed and breakfast before its conversion into individual units. Inspired by beloved works of literature, names like Camelot, Hobbit Hutch, Room With a View, Garden View, Age of Innocence, and Commander's Cabin reflect the home's story and charm.
