The Bonnie Inn is a nostalgic motel built in the 1940s by Mr. Moore, a local resident of San Andreas who worked at the Calaveras Cement plant which has been closed for several decades. Mr. Moore built the inn with cement bricks he made himself one by one, added an adobe tile roof, and named it the San Andreas Motel. At that time, Highway 49 was not much more than a dirt road surrounded by the foothills of the Sierra Nevada dotted with oaks and pines. The inn was purchased in the 1970s by Bonnie Janssen who renamed the motel Bonnie's Inn. Bonnie spent many years of her life turning the inn into a warm, bright, and welcoming place where people from all over the country, even the world, came to stay. Her style, passion, endless work, and love can still be felt by those who spend time at the Bonnie Inn among the antiques, art, and long-established foliage situated on the property.
